Congratulations to Para NB Sport and Recreation on the successful launch of their equipment loan service!
The Para NB Equipment Loan Service will increase access to adaptive equipment and devices for persons with a physical disability in New Brunswick. Lack of access to proper equipment is a major barrier to participation in sport and recreational activities for persons with a physical disability, but the Para NB Equipment Loan Service will provide specialized para sport and recreation equipment to individuals, provincial sport organizations, para sport groups and clubs, recreation programs, municipalities and schools. This service is made possible with funding support from the Department of Healthy & Inclusive Communities with an investment of $180,000 over three years and the Fredericton Community Foundation Impact Grant of $20,000 for the purchase of equipment.
“Para NB is thrilled to be offering this service. We look forward to seeing individuals with a physical disability from communities all over New Brunswick reap the benefits of physical activity by having access to proper equipment to participate in the sports and activities they enjoy,” stated Courtenay Brennan, Manager of Para NB – Sport & Recreation.
The Minister of Healthy and Inclusive Communities, Dorothy Shephard, was present for the event.
“Everyone should be able to engage in physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. This new initiative will help eliminate barriers for persons with a physical disability,” said Minister Shephard. “This investment is part of our government’s plan to rebuild a healthier and more inclusive New Brunswick.”
