Manitoba Wheelchair Sports to Host a Wheelchair Rugby Beginner’s Clinic

From September 28-29, Manitoba Wheelchair Sports will host a Wheelchair Rugby Clinic in Winnipeg. The clinic is open to all ages, genders, disabilities and experience levels. Even able-bodied individuals are welcome to attend.

The clinic is a great opportunity for beginners looking to develop the basics of wheelchair rugby, as well as for current athletes wanting to take their skills to the next level. Registration is $35 for MWSA members of the weekend and $45 for non-members. Lunch will be provided.

Saturday September 28, 2013 – Sport For Life Building, 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg:

0930 – 1000 – Arrival/check-in.

1000 – 1100 – Mental Training facilitated by Lindsay Arnal.

1115 – 1215 – Sport Nutrition specific to wheelchair athletes (beginner/intermediate) facilitated by Jorie Janzen.

12:15 – 1300 – Lunch.

1300 – 1400 – Presentation by Kevin Stewart, Physiotherapist.  Importance of strength training & conditioning.

1415 – 1600 – Hands on strength training & conditioning using 2nd floor fitness centre in Sport For Life.  Session will be facilitated by staff from the Sport Performance Centre.

 

Sunday September 29, 2013 – Youth For Christ, 333 King Street, Winnipeg:

1000 – 1015 : Arrival.

1015 – 12:00 – Wheelchair Rugby Skills & Drills.

12:00 – 1300 – Lunch.

1300 – 1345 – Wheelchair rugby chair maintenance.

1400 – Wheelchair Rugby Rules presented by local Officials.

1430 – 1600 – Wheelchair Rugby Games.
