Thanks to the Metro News for stopping by to check out all the great work that’s being done by Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports Association. Their Bridging the Gap program, under the director of new Bridging the Gap Cooridinator Leanne Schellenberg, is taking off and welcoming more new participants than ever.
The reporter interviewed Paralympic silver medalist Mike Bacon, who’s a peer mentor with the program, who discussed how Bridging the Gap helps participants lead more independent lives after sustaining a spinal cord injury.
“The whole time you’re doing it, people are actually having fun — but they’re getting stronger,” he said. “They’re getting more used to the function they have now, so hopefully every little bits is helping them regain some of that independence, so they can get back to life.”
