how does it work?
Our Provincial Partners are the Wheelchair, or Para, and sport Associations in each province. In the Atlantic Region we created a partnership with all 4 provinces and Parasport and Recreation PEI agreed to manage the position. They are provided with some additional funds to cover the travel costs associated with the position.
The Provincial Partners manage the Bridging the Gap coordinator positions and ensure that programming necessary is implemented. The Provincial Partners are responsible for the actual implementation of Bridging the Gap programming and the day to day supervision of the staff who implement these programs. If you are thinking of getting involved in wheelchair sports click on the provincial link at the contact info you need and get in touch with the Bridging the Gap coordinator in your region.
available support
Whatever sport interests you, we are there to help you get involved in the sport of your choice! Whether it's accompanying you to the first event or helping you organize how to get there, we will do whatever we can to help you get involved and stay involved. If funding is a concern for you, we will help in whatever way we can to provide that kind of support as well. For example, there are a number of grants and bursaries available for people who want to get involved and participate in sport and recreation, and we can help you access those opportunities for funding.
programs
Throughout the year, Bridging the Gap provides clinics, developmental programs, leagues and tournaments because we know how important it is for programs to be available for people who want to participate. As more people get involved, the sports themselves have to develop and we work hard to ensure that whatever level you are at, in whatever sport, there is a program available for you.
Our Core Sports
The BTG Coordinators in each province are also able to connect participants to other sports as the overall goal is to get people
physically active.
The program helps individuals with a disability reintegrate into the community and regain their motivation, inspiration, independence, and confidence
throughphysical activity.
Provincial Partners
Wheelchair
Loan Program
Bridging the Gap offers a wheelchair loan program to minimize the financial burden of participating in wheelchair
sports. This aims to increase the number of people with disabilities becoming physically active and participating in recreation
and sport. Contact a BTG staff member at your nearest provincial wheelchair sport organization
for more information.
